Behind the Camera
Born and raised in San Francisco, Darryl Baybay has always been mystified and inspired by the possibilities of cinema. With a camera in hand throughout his adolescence, Darryl never actually considered it as a prospective profession until college. While majoring in Psychology at Cal Poly Pomona, he created a series of short films--Truancy, Soul Struggle, and Neither Hear Nor Their--inspired by the poetry, music and art festering among his friends. After graduating, he moved back home to the city that raised him to attend San Francisco State to pursue a second degree in Film. There, Darryl wrote and directed Never Will I Ever, a short film inspired by the stories passed down to him as a little boy focusing on his grandfather's loss of hearing. Shortly after graduation, he created his production company "60 Miles & Walking". Through 60MW Productions, Darryl continues to push towards the progression of the art of cinema through the digital era.
History of 60 Miles & Walking Darryl Baybay named his production company "60 Miles & Walking," inspired by his grandfather's survival of WWII's sixty-mile Bataan Death March and his parents' US immigration. These two personal and historical events laid the foundation for Darryl's attitude about his art - the emphasis, significance and beauty of telling the story of one's journey, no matter the destination.
Born and raised in San Francisco, Darryl's family fed him a healthy dose of stories, tales, and biographical accounts of life in the Philippines; those traditions and ideologies passed from each generation to next continue to pulsate throughout each piece of his work. |
